Preventive care to keep your smile healthy and bright
Regular dental checkups and professional cleanings are the cornerstone of preventive dentistry. These routine visits allow Dr. Cannady to catch potential problems early, prevent cavities and gum disease, and keep your smile looking and feeling its best.
During your visit, we'll thoroughly examine your teeth, gums, and mouth, take any necessary X-rays, and provide a comprehensive cleaning to remove plaque and tartar buildup that regular brushing can't reach.
We recommend most patients visit us every six months for optimal oral health, though some may benefit from more frequent cleanings depending on their individual needs.
Dr. Cannady will examine your teeth, gums, tongue, and soft tissues, checking for cavities, gum disease, oral cancer, and other concerns.
When needed, we'll take digital X-rays to see what's happening below the surface and identify issues not visible to the naked eye.
Our team will remove plaque and tartar, polish your teeth, and provide fluoride treatment to strengthen enamel and prevent decay.
We'll discuss any findings and provide tailored advice on improving your home care routine.
If any issues are found, we'll create a treatment plan and discuss your options in clear, easy-to-understand terms.
We encourage you to ask questions and make sure you feel informed and comfortable with your oral health.
Professional cleanings remove plaque and tartar that lead to tooth decay, saving you from costly fillings and root canals.
Regular checkups help detect and prevent gum disease, which is linked to serious health conditions like heart disease and diabetes.
We can spot problems like cavities, oral cancer, and bite issues early when they're easier and less expensive to treat.
Professional cleanings remove stains and polish your teeth, leaving your smile looking and feeling fresh and clean.
We recommend most patients visit every six months for a routine checkup and cleaning. However, some patients with gum disease or other oral health concerns may benefit from more frequent visits, such as every three or four months. Dr. Cannady will recommend the best schedule for your individual needs.
For most patients, dental cleanings are completely comfortable. You may feel some mild pressure or scraping sensations, but it shouldn't be painful. If you have sensitive teeth or gums, let us know—we can take extra care to ensure your comfort, and numbing gel is available if needed.
A typical checkup and cleaning appointment takes about 45 minutes to one hour. This includes the examination, X-rays (if needed), cleaning, and time to discuss any findings or questions you may have.
Most dental insurance plans cover preventive care, including two checkups and cleanings per year at 100%. We'll verify your benefits and file claims on your behalf to make the process as easy as possible.
Don't worry—we never judge, and you're not alone! If it's been several years since your last cleaning, you may have more tartar buildup, which could require a deeper cleaning (scaling and root planing). We'll assess your needs and explain any recommended treatments. The important thing is taking that first step to get back on track.
